Abstract
Polygonella ciliata var.basiramia andP. fimbriata var.robusta are raised in rank toP. basiramia (Small) Nesom & Bates, comb. nov., andP. robusta (Small) Nesom & Bates, comb. nov. Although the morphological similarity betweenP. ciliata andP. basiramia and betweenP. fimbriata andP. robusta is greater than between any other species of the genus, the sister species of each newly recognized pair are separated by morphological discontinuities and are completely allopatric with each other. In agreement with Wunderlin (1981) we recognize three varieties withinP. polygama, but our criteria for their identification are slightly different than his.
