A new Venezuelan species of Cordia sect. Gerascanthus (Boraginaceae)

Abstract

Cordia thaisiana is described as new from the state of Zulia, Venezuela. It can be distinguished from other species in the section by the inconspicuously nerved calyx, the flower disk fused with the ovary, and by the glabrous branches and leaf blades. A key is provided for the species ofCordia sect.Gerascanthus growing in northern South America.
