Gabapentin, a novel anticonvulsant originally developed for the treatment of seizure disorders, appears to be effective in the treatment of numerous difficult-to-treat pain conditions. These include migraine, peripheral neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia, delegates were told at the 17th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Pain Society [ San Diego, US; November 1998 ].
