New tricks with old drugs for UTIs

Abstract

Rational prescribing of antimicrobial agents for urinary tract infections (UTIs) was encouraged at the 92nd Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association [ New Orleans, US; April, 1997 ]. The use of currently available, older, antibiotics may reverse the trend towards antibiotic resistance that has occurred as a result of either inappropriate use or overuse of newer drugs.
