Abstract
Several speakers at the 16th Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hypertension [ Glasgow, UK; July 1996 ] claimed that angiotensin II antagonists were ‘ more than just ACE inhibitors without the cough ’. However, more clinical data from trials comparing the 2 classes of antihypertensive agents are required before such claims can be substantiated. At the meeting, recent data on the angiotensin II receptor antagonists irbesartan, candesartan cilexetil and losartan potassium were presented at satellite symposia sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb, Takeda and Merck, respectively.
