Abstract
A new study has shown that amantadine can effectively treat patients with interferon-resistant hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The researchers involved in the study are hoping that amantadine may also provide a feasible alternative to interferon as first-line therapy for this condition. According to the study results, amantadine achieved similar efficacy to interferon, while being associated with fewer adverse effects and lower costs. The results were presented at Digestive Disease Week [ San Francisco, US; May 1996 ].
