PAF - the challenge continues

The discovery that a rather simple, endogenous phosphoglyceride, now known as platelet-activating factor (PAF), could have potent and diverse biological activities signalled a new era in biochemistry and pharmacology. While the role of PAF in pathological inflammatory processes has been intensively studied by researchers in many countries, the complete definition of the compound’s mode of action has remained elusive to date. However, the secrets of this potent pro-inflammatory phospholipid are now being unravelled. The latest research findings on PAF were presented at the 5th International Congress on Platelet-Activating Factor and Related Lipid Mediators [ Berlin, Germany; September 1995 ].
