Abstract

We have developed triazine-based polymers (PolyTz) with pendant reactive functional groups which facilitates formation of covalent linkages between cement and polymer, and it provides improved mechanical properties in oil and gas wells cement. The incorporation of PolyTz in cement allow 14.8% reduction in Young’s modulus at 80°C under confined pressure of 20 MPa. The compressive strength of neat cement and cement with PolyTz was 66.2 MPa and 54.4 MPa at 80°C under confined pressure of 20 MPa. The formation of covalent linkages between cement and PolyTz was confirmed through infrared spectroscopic, and the chemical linkages allow better distribution of stresses to improve the mechanical properties of oil and gas wells cement.
