The Materials Research Society (MRS) and the Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM) are excited to be working together on this global effort by growing the International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) held annually in Cancún, Mexico. The XXIV IMRC will be held August 16–20, 2015. The Meeting Chairs are Patrizia Calaminici, Departamento de Química Cinvestav, Centro de Investigación (Mexico); Lioudmila Fomina, Instituto de Investigaciones en Materiales, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico); Manuel Quevedo, The University of Texas at Dallas, Department of MS&E (USA); and Ernesto Joselevich, Department of Materials and Interfaces, Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel).

The Congress will feature 38 symposia covering nanoscience and nanotechnology, bio and bioinspired materials, materials for energy, fundamental materials science, materials characterization, materials for specific applications, and magnetic and electronic materials.

The featured speaker during the Science Luncheon is Luis A. Orozco, University of Maryland (USA). He will present some facts regarding the world of quantum mechanics and the second revolution that is happening now, which is showing developments with optical nanofibers.

This annual international meeting provides an interactive forum to discuss the advances in synthesis, characterization, properties, processing, applications, basic research trends, corrosion prevention, and more, all related to the area of materials science and engineering. It has become a popular meeting destination with approximately 1500 attendees from more than 40 countries.
