Conclusion

The study of the magnetic and magneto-optical properties of ultrathin magnetic films and multilayers is contributing to several significant experimental and theoretical developments. Atomic-level control of these structures has recently become possible, offering the opportunity to test the physics of magnetism using extremely wellcontrolled materials, and to develop new materials with useful magnetooptical properties.
