Conclusions

Many important achievements in vacuum technology have been obtained thanks to the use of NEG materials. NEGs have proven to be the most convenient, and sometimes a unique, means of maintaining the vacuum conditions required for the life and operation of various vacuum systems, ranging from small sealed-off devices to large vacuum chambers. The availability of various gettering materials and structures permits a convenient matching with vacuum systems having different geometries and requirements.
