Masahiro Yoshimura, Guest Editor for this issue of the MRS Bulletin, is a professor in the Research Laboratory of Engineering Materials at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yokohama, and has been a visiting scientist in various laboratories abroad. Yoshimura is the author or coauthor of more than 400 papers, many of them on hydrothermal processing and on phase stability and phase relations of zirconia- or rare-earthbased systems. He holds 10 patents and has received several awards for his work. Yoshimura is also a corresponding fellow of the International Institute for the Science of Sintering and has been elected to the Academy of Ceramics. He earned BS, MS, and DSc degrees in engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
F. Howard Stott, Guest Editor for this issue of the MRS Bulletin, is a professor of corrosion science and engineering and head of the Corrosion and Protection Centre at the Manchester (U.K.) Institute of Science and Technology. His research interests focus on hightemperature oxidation and corrosion, high-temperature wear and erosion, and surface coatings.
