M.K. Miller is a senior research staff member in the Metals and Ceramics Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory. His research interests lie in the areas of phase transformations, radiation damage, and alloy design. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 research papers.

George D.W. Smith is the George Kelly Reader in Metallurgy in the Department of Materials at Oxford University. He received the Beilby Medal and Prize in 1985 and the Rosenhain Medal in 1991. His research interests lie in the areas of phase transformations and the study of structure-composition-property relationships in metals and alloys. He is the author or co-author of some 170 research papers, and co-founder of Kind-brisk Limited, which manufactures the position sensitive atom probe.
