Conclusions

High-pressure experiments are essential to understanding the interior of the Earth and other planets. Technology is developing rapidly, and its further improvement is often made possible by new materials. The physical and chemical evolution of planets depends on the materials properties of their constituents. High pressure also offers routes to synthesizing new materials and observing phase transitions. These types of studies bring the Earth science and materials science communities closer.
