Conclusions

The CoolGard/Cool Line system has been demonstrated to be a safe and useful adjunct in the management of fever in neurologically critically ill patients. It remains to be seen if reduction of fever will translate to improved outcome in these patients. The potential use of this system in the induction of therapeutic hypothermia also needs to be explored.
