Unterstützung der Selbstregulation für das Arbeiten in der digitalen Welt

Support of Self-regulation at the Digital Workplace

Zusammenfassung

Digitalisierung führt zu starken Veränderungen bei Wissens- und Dienstleistungsarbeitsplätzen und bietet insgesamt die Chance, durch zunehmende Vernetzung und Verfügbarkeit von Daten und Mitarbeitenden, Arbeiten mit immer größerer Genauigkeit und Geschwindigkeit ohne Ortswechsel am Digital Workplace durchzuführen. Die Digitalisierung kann aber auch durch eine Zunahme von physischen und psychischen Belastungen geprägt sein. Der Zugang zu Informationen und sozialen Medien kann überfordern, Ablenkungen und Arbeitsunterbrechungen können genauso wie steigende Lern- und Autonomie-Anforderungen Stress verursachen.

Der Digital Workplace wirkt diesem gegenwärtig nur wenig entgegen. Weder der physische noch der virtuelle Ort, d. h. das Büro bzw. der Desktop PC oder Laptop von Wissensarbeitenden, lässt sich an die Anforderungen verschiedener Arbeitsprozesse wie Routine, Inspiration, Kommunikation, Kreation und Analyse anpassen. Der jeweilige aktuelle mentale Zustand des Mitarbeitenden, d. h. das innere Selbst, wird gar nicht berücksichtigt.

Eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung des Digital Workplace kann aber dazu beitragen, die Gesundheit und Leistungsfähigkeit von Wissensarbeitenden zu erhalten und zu verbessern. Daher schlagen wir eine Systemarchitektur vor, die eine (semi-)automatische Anpassung des physischen und virtuellen Ortes an die jeweiligen Anforderungen der verschiedenen Arbeitsprozesse und den aktuellen inneren Zustand der Wissensarbeitenden vornehmen kann und diese aktiv dabei unterstützt, die eigene Selbstregulationsfähigkeit in der digitalen Arbeitswelt zu fördern und zu verbessern.

Abstract

Digitalization yields severe changes for knowledge workers and service workplaces. With the growing integration and availability of data and employees, the digital workplace offers the chance to perform work with higher precision and higher speed without the necessity to change places. However, digitalization can also increase physical and psychological strain. The access to information and social media can be overwhelming, distractions and work interruptions as well as increasing demands for further training and autonomy can result in higher stress reactions.

At present, the digital workplace does not attempt to counter these effects. Neither the physical nor the virtual place, i. e. the office or the desktop pc or laptop of knowledge workers, can be adapted to the requirements of varying work processes such as routine, inspiration, communication, creation, or analysis. Furthermore, it does not consider the mental state of the employees, his or her inner self.

However, a holistic consideration of the digital workplace can contribute to the preservation and improvement of health and productivity of knowledge workers. Hence, we propose a system architecture, which enables the (semi-)automatic adaptation of the physical and virtual place based on the requirements of the different work processes as well as the mental state of the knowledge worker. It also is aimed to actively support employees to promote and improve their ability for self-regulation at the digital workplace.
