As much as 70 % of the energy needed to manufacture a car is used in the painting process. If energy savings of more than 75 % can be achieved in this area, the result is not only a huge drop in production costs, but also a reduction in CO2 emissions. The paint shop at Volkswagen’s plant in Bratislava has demonstrated that this is possible.

In order to improve the sustainability of their production processes, car manufacturers have put the priority on reducing emissions and cutting resource use. These were the requirements in Volkswagen’s invitation to tender for the construction of an additional paint line for the new VW Up and other small models from the VW Group at its plant in Bratislava in Slovakia.
