Abstract
We describe the personal and epistolar relations between Carl-Friedrich Gauss and the Belgian astronomer and statistician Adolphe Quetelet, and Gauss’ influence upon the work of the Belgian mathematician Charles-Jean de La Vallée Poussin on the prime number theorem and in potential theory.
