Abstract

A rapid, low-cost, and highly sensitive analytical method to detect glyphosate and its major metabolite, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), in water samples has been developed, involving a derivatization with a new labeling reagent, 4-methoxybenzenesulfonyl fluoride, followed by reverse phase liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. The limits of detection of both of glyphosate and AMPA in real water samples are 0.1 μg L−1 with simple pre-concentration. This method has proven to be sensitive and reliable for determination of glyphosate and AMPA in water samples.
