Abstract

A mixture of three polyethylene oxides bearing alkyl chains of different lengths C12H25O(CH2CH2O)nH, C16H33O(CH2CH2O)nH, C18H37O(CH2CH2O)nH have been analyzed by different techniques: two-dimensional LC, MALDI-TOF, ESI-MS and LC-MS. Among these techniques, the LC-MS coupling allowed the fastest analysis (4 min versus 2 h in two-dimensional LC). In addition, the complexity of the mass spectra deduced from LC-MS experiments was simplified compared to the mass spectra obtained by MALDI-TOF and ESI-MS. Overlaps of isobaric ions were avoided and by-products were identified more easily.
