Abstract.
This lecture reviews the main aspects associated with fusion processes between heavy ions at energies below the Coulomb barrier. We discuss in particular the novel features arising in the case of fusion with weakly-bound nuclei. The role of continuum states and the coupling to break-up channels are particularly emphasized.
