Abstract
In this paper, by using a transitional interacting boson model Hamiltonian, which is based on affine SU(1,1) Lie algebra, the evolution from spherical to deformed shapes along the chain of Cd isotopes, describing at the same time the excitation energies, B(E2) transition rates as well as the two-neutron separation energies, can be rather well reproduced. The interplay between phase transitions and configuration mixing of intruder excitations in this mass region is succinctly addressed and it also proposes 114Cd and 122Cd isotopes as the best candidates for E(5) critical symmetry.
