We are very sad to announce that Prof. Theodore Tomaras, a distinguished member of the Editorial Board of EPJC, passed away in August 2021, following a brief illness.

Theodore was an all-around theoretical physicist. He produced influential work on a wide range of topics, from particle and string theory phenomenology; physics beyond the standard model; classical and quantum gravity and aspects of inflation and de Sitter space; to solitons in high energy and condensed matter physics. He obtained his PhD from Harvard University with Howard Georgi and Sidney Coleman. After a Research Associate position under Murray Gell-Mann at Caltech, an Assistant Professor position at Rockefeller University and a Visiting Professor position at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, he joined the University of Crete. Having retired and been elected Emeritus Professor in 2020, Theodore was active in education and research up to the very end. His last paper was published in EPJC in August of 2021.

Theodore had been an Editor of EPJC since 2012 and continued working for the journal up until two weeks before his death. His profound understanding of all aspects of theoretical physics ensured excellent editorship and raised the quality of the journal. We will all miss his valued expert contributions to the journal, and many of us will cherish fond memories of his hospitality on Crete.
