Abstract.

We discuss the longitudinal and transverse quasi-elastic cross-sections for 3 He and 4 He in terms of the Euclidian response, which can be directly calculated from the ground-state wave function. We find that the main open problem in quasi-elastic scattering, the excess of transverse strength, can be understood as a consequence of meson exchange currents, once the n-p short-range and tensor correlations in both initial and final state are included.
