Beta-decay and exotic nuclei

  • K. Riisager
Article

Abstract:

Selected examples are given of how beta-decay can provide information on nuclei far from the line of beta-stability. Emphasis is put on beta-delayed particle emission, in particular processes with emission of several particles. The physics questions addressed include halo nuclei and multi-particle emission mechanisms. Muon capture on radioactive nuclei is discussed as an alternative way of accessing the region of high excitation energy.
