Abstract

The possibilities for and the barriers to the introduction of innovation-based environmental management are investigated. Basic areas of clean production related to the application of innovative principles of economic development for the solution of environmental problems are explored. The competitiveness of domestic enterprises in global markets will also be enhanced at the expense of improved environmental parameters of production, achieved through the implementation of the above measures. Major difficulties associated with the practical implementation of innovation-based development in the environmental field are illustrated. Possible implications of the crisis for the relationship between the economy and the environment are analyzed. Possible changes in the interaction between the public and private sectors in the environmental field are described. New financial mechanisms, helping attract investment to long-term and capital-intensive nature conservation projects during the crisis are introduced. Possibilities of testing the innovation-based exploration and development approach are illustrated on the case studies of the Lower Angara area in Krasnoyarsk krai.
