Abstract
The key indices of soil biodiversity are considered in the context of a biogeocoenotic estimation of their role in the biosphere. The categories of soil biodiversity were determined with feature detection; the biosphere functions of soil biodiversity typical of arid conditions were differentiated. Biodiversity was first characterized on the basis of the internal properties of soils and the spatial indices of elementary soil areals. The contents of the parameters of internal and spatial soil organization make a certain contribution to the development of the concept of soil biodiversity and reflect the peculiarities of the modern stage of its development.
