Abstract

The current condition of the summer phytoplankton of the water areas of the Kizlyar and Sulak gulfs is marked by a high taxonomic variety, significant quantitative development of the phytoplankton community, predominance of small cell forms, and the increasing role of cyanophyte algae. The major contribution to the biomass has been made by Bacillariophyta (the dominant being Actinocyclus ehrenbergii Ralfs); Cyantophyta (the dominant being Oscillatoria sp., Aphanothece clathrata W. et G. S. West.) have been the most numerous.
