Abstract

A total of 84 elderly patients suffering from II stage arterial hypertension (AH) have been examined by echocardiography and dopplercardiometry, enzyme multiplied immunoasssay of Nt-proBNP level, serumal markers of collagen exchange, and apoptosis activity to determine the pathogenetic role of apoptosis and interstitial myocardial fibrosis in remodeling of the myocardium and its dysfunction. Patients with a normal geometrical model of the heart demonstrated a low level of cardiomyocyte apoptosis and interstitial fibrosis activity. Structural reorganization of the myocardium from concentric to eccentric hypertrophy and concentric remodeling of the left ventricle was characterized by strengthening of cellular apoptosis and interstitial myocardial fibrosis in extracellular matrix expressiveness, a prevalence of collagen synthesis over collagen degradation, and the progression of myocardium dysfunction.
