Abstract
A path of the formation of schools of thought on the development of high-strength vessel steels which were created by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences I.V. Gorynin is shown from the beginning of the 1950s to the present time. Results achieved in the field of development and application of high-strength steels for nuclear reactor vessels of a new generation with enhanced radiation resistance are represented.
