Interrelation of the parameters of equations of multilayer adsorption and BET

Abstract

Results of the description of polymolecular adsorption according to the BET equation and multilayer adsorption equation are presented. Closeness of the values of monolayer capacity for systems characterized by universal dispersion interactions of the first adsorbate layer with the adsorbent surface is noted upon comparison of parameters of both equations. It is established that the values of the energy parameter of the multilayer adsorption equation are proportional to constant C of the BET equation in power of 0.37. The obtained dependence of characteristic adsorption energy of multilayer adsorption and constant C makes it possible to determine the multilayer adsorption equation parameters based on the BET equation parameters and calculation of adsorption isotherms on nonporous and wide-pore adsorbents in the range of both monolayer and polymolecular adsorption uncomplicated by capillary condensation.
