Abstract
The existing models and methods of forecasting pitting corrosion are considered, compared, and generalized. The sphere of application of the forecast techniques is shown to differ depending on the situation. Mathematical modeling is most often used in fundamental investigations when determining regularities of corrosion processes in a particular system. Extrapolation techniques are used in applied studies in the case of systems with the well known peculiarities and a rich set of statistical material. Expert estimates are necessary when new system shows unclear characteristics.
