Abstract
The value of divergence calculated as a quantitative indicator of the similarity of probability distributions of the soil properties is used to estimate the degree of the soil differences in relation to the heterogeneity of the soil-formation factors as well as to the natural and anthropogenic processes. The paper reports results of the calculations of divergence of the humus content in the soils of the arid-steppe zone in the south of West Siberia caused by the difference in granulometric composition, deflation, and agricultural use. It allows one to distinguish the most vulnerable varieties and to range the natural and anthropogenic impacts by the degree of their influence on the soil properties.
