The dynamics of accumulation of above-ground phytomass by technogenic communities in the course of their natural progressive successional replacement in the Norilsk Industrial District

Contemporary Problems of Ecology Aims and scope

Abstract

It has been revealed that the above-ground phytomass in pit-wall communities increases most rapidly during the first succession stage, i.e., when plants colonize bare grounds. In following succession stages, the accumulation of phytomass slows down, with phytocenotic composition changing considerably. The above-ground phytomass in dump phytocenoses increases gradually in all succession stages.
