The Structure and Properties of Materials Obtained by Impregnation

Abstract

The issues of penetration of a low-melting metal into workpieces made of iron–copper and iron–carbon porous materials are considered: the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and density of the obtained material are determined by the composition and density of the pressing, the regime of preliminary sintering. The influence of an increase in temperature of preliminary sintering is considered, under the impact of which the plasticity and strength of the workpieces increase. At the same time, metal bonds that have appeared as a result of preliminary sintering are maintained during impregnation and the further increase in the properties occurs due to the closure of pores and the formation of new bonds.
