Abstract
This paper describes the basics of thermal chemical processing of an organic peat substance aimed at forming and separating bitumen components to make water-repellant modifying additives. The possibility of using such additives as water-repellant agents in fire-extinguishing powders is preevaluated. An industrytailored method of producing fire-extinguishing powders modified by peat water repellants is suggested. The layout of a test unit for studying the suppression of a standardized fire source is presented. A distinct technique of testing fire-extinguishing powders is developed. Quantitative efficiency values of water-repellant modified fire-extinguishing powders are presented.
