Effect of iPP Molecular Weight on Dynamic Viscoelastic Properties of iPP/EPDM Blends

Abstract

Dynamic rheological measurements were used to characterize the polymer blends based on three different molecular weight grades of iPP and uncured EPDM phase prepared by melt processing. It was shown that individual iPPs and iPP/EPDM blends demonstrate the shear thinning which started at very low frequencies. The viscoelastic property of the iPP/EPDM blends was found to change with the variation of blends’ composition and iPP molecular weight. All compositions with various EPDM content displayed an increase in elastic response with frequency. The blends changed from solid-like to liquid-like behavior as the frequency was decreased.
