Abstract—For 20 years (1986–2006) the Department of Human and Animal Physiology of the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University was headed by Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Igor Petrovich Ashmarin. This publication shows his outstanding role as a scientist, organizer, and teacher, who created a school of deep and methodical study of regulatory peptides at Moscow State University. The objects of study were many natural and artificially modified peptide molecules, and their effect on the cardiovascular system, digestion and metabolism, hormonal sphere, brain activity, etc. The main focus was, and continues to be, on a systematic consideration of the revealed physiological, pathophysiological and potentially therapeutic (corrective and protective) effects, as well as the mechanisms of neuroimmunoendocrine interaction at various levels—from molecular and genetic to behavioral.
