Co- and ter-polymerization of poly(o-anthranilic acid): Synthesis and characterization

Abstract

Three series of copolymers o-antranilic acid-co-aniline, o-antranilic acid-co-o-toluidine and otoluidine-co-aniline were synthesized by oxidative chemical polymerization and characterized by FTIR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis and conductivity. Poly(o-antranilic acid-co-o-toluidine) was synthesized at room temperature, and poly(o-toluidine-co-aniline) at molar ratio 25: 75 demonstrated a relatively high conductivity; whereas lower conductivity was observed for poly(o-antranilic acid-co-aniline). The terpolymers exhibited excellent solubility and higher conductivity than the two substituted anilines.
