Alkaline activity of glass powders used as additives to portland cement. Part I

Abstract

The phenomenon of leaching the surface of glass powder used as an additive to Portland cement is under discussion. The influence of the alkaline factor on the total alkali content of cement composites containing powdered glass should be taken into consideration because of the limits of the alkali content of the cement (due to the risk of alkaline corrosion) and the rather high content of alkali oxides in container glass commonly used as additives. For this purpose, a special technique was developed, with water being an extracting medium and potentiometry (pH-metry) being used to estimate the alkaline activity.
