Sol-gel synthesis of an organic-inorganic composite for preparation of an active carrier of α-amylase

Abstract

Using the sol-gel method, a carbon-silica carrier of α-amylase enzyme is synthesized. It is found that enzyme immobilization on a composite carrier increases its activity under the starch hydrolysis by 43%. A positive synergic effect is observed with respect to enzyme on the composite when comparing α-amylase activity on the composite constituents (carbon, SiO2) and on the composite itself.
