On the Ratio of the Level of Material Support and the Subjective Quality of Human Life

  • Published:
Studies on Russian Economic Development Aims and scope

The article is devoted to studying the Subjective Quality of Life (SQL), its essence and processes closely related to its movement. It highlights both the research methodology in this area of knowledge and recent advances in the creation of a broad empirical base needed to carry out such research. The practical results of the article include the identification of the actual relationship between the SQL and traditional indicator of people’s well-being—their level of life, as well as the conclusion that at the present stage of human development the accumulation of material wealth and economic growth, which have hitherto been playing a central role in this development, are gradually yielding to its nonmaterial forms of accumulation.
