Abstract
This paper considers the major modern trends in reforming pension systems in different groups of countries. Emphasis is placed on problems that are urgent for Russia, including the correlation between obligatory and voluntary savings schemes, use of notional savings accounts, promotion of professional pension systems, the automatic adjustment of pension provision conditions according to growth in lifespan or ratio between incomes and expenses of the system, and the investment policies of private and reserve pension funds.
