Abstract

A simple and highly efficient method for the synthesis of 2-substituted quinazolinone derivatives was developed by using zinc ferrite as a catalyst under solvent-free conditions in open air atmosphere. The moderate reaction conditions, good or excellent yield of products, short reaction times, and simple workup procedure are the main advantages of this method. Moreover, the catalyst (ZnFe2O4) can be easily separated by simple filtration. The recovery of the catalyst was more than 92%. The recovered catalyst could be used at least three times without significant loss in activity.
