Synthesis and Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activities of 1,2,3-Triazole-Tethered Xanthone Derivatives

A new series of 1,2,3-triazole-tethered xanthone derivatives have been prepared from propargyl­oxyxanthone and various aromatic azides via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction in the presence of copper(I) iodide as catalyst. The procedure proved to be easy, high yielding, and selective. The synthesized compounds were characterized by using 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis and were screened for their antimicrobial activity. Most of these compounds showed moderate to high activity.
