Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of Novel Chalcone-derived Pyrazoles

Russian Journal of Organic Chemistry Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

A series of chalcones with various substituents and their novel pyrazole and pyrazoline derivatives were synthesized. The pyrazole derivatives were synthesized in two ways: via chalcone epoxide formation followed by reaction with hydrazine and by direct cyclization of chalcones with hydrazine. Some of the synthesized chalcones showed antibacterial activity, especially against Staphylococcus sp. Smg2 bacteria. The synthesized pyrazole derivatives, too, showed antibacterial activity, and the best results were obtained with Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538.
