Transformations of ecdysteroids in the synthesis of their structural analogs and minor phytoecdysteroids

Abstract

The review considers transformations of ecdysteroids (mostly of 20-hydroxyecdysone and its derivatives) involving the A, B, C, and D rings of the steroid skeleton and the side chain, which are used in the synthesis of minor phyto- and zooecdysteroids and structural analogs of ecdysteroids.

Viktor Nikolaevich Odinokov was born on December 22, 1937 in Klin (Moscow region). In 1960 he graduated from the Mendeleev Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology. Junior researcher at the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry, Siberian Division, Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1960–1966), senior researcher at the Novosibirsk Branch, Research Institute of Polymerization Plastics (1966–1970), head of a laboratory at the former Institute of Chemistry, Bashkir Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now Institute of Organic Chemistry, Ufa Research Center, Russian Academy of Sciences) (1970–1992). Since 1992, V.N. Odinokov is head of a laboratory at the Institute of Petrochemistry and Catalysis, Academy of Sciences of Bashkortostan Republic (now Institute of Petrochemistry and Catalysis, Russian Academy of Sciences). Doctor of chemical science since 1981, Professor (1984), Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (1998) and Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1987), Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Bashkortostan Republic since 1991.

Fields of scientific interest: synthesis of pheromones, juvenoids, ecdysteroids, triterpenoids, tocopherols, and their analogs.

Natal’ya Anatol’evna Ves’kina was born in Fedorovka village, Fedorovskii region, Bashkortostan Republic. In 2001 she graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry, Bashkir State University. In 2004 she finished post-graduate courses at the Institute of Petrochemistry and Catalysis of the Russian Academy of Sciences. N.A. Ves’kina works now as researcher at the Organic Synthesis Laboratory, Institute of Petrochemistry and Catalysis of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Fields of scientific interest: synthesis, isolation, structure determination, and chemical properties of minor natural ecdysteroids.
