Abstract
A facile procedure has been developed for the transition metal-free oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones and of sulfoxides to sulfones with hydrogen peroxide in aqueous medium in the presence of β-cyclodextrin as catalyst. The procedure allows formation of sulfoxide or sulfone to be controlled.
