Abstract

A technique is proposed for determining the partial molar volumes of gaseous substances in liquids and the density of the resulting solutions at elevated pressure by gas-liquid chromatography. The partial molar volume of ethylene and the density of its solutions at 298 K in a number of perhalogenated liquids at various ethylene concentrations were measured. The plot of the molar volume of ethylene as a function of its mole fraction is shown to be almost linear in the pressure range of 0–1.5 MPa. The behavior of the studied ethylene–perhalogenated solvent systems is close to that of an ideal solution.
