Abstract

Norbornene containing a substituent with the 9,10-dihydroanthracene moiety and two methyl groups was synthesized. The conditions of its vinyl-addition polymerization ensuring the formation of the high-molecular-weight product (Mw > 5 × 105) in a high yield (>70%) were determined. The polymer synthesized was characterized by NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The sorption properties of the polymer, including their variation with time, were studied by low-temperature nitrogen adsorption–desorption. The polymer has the specific surface area of up to 550 m2 g–1, contains micro- and mesopores, and is prone to physical aging.
